The following (planned) course is certified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) and World Athletics/Association of International Marathons and Distance Races.

  • In the event of high winds, natural disasters, etc., the organizers reserve the right to cancel the competition or change the course at their discretion. In case of course changes, the route may become uncertified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) and World Athletics/Association of International Marathons and Distance Races.

REGULATIONS

The event shall be conducted in accordance with the current rules and regulations of the World Athletics and JAAF and the regulations of the event.

CHECKPOINTS

For traffic, security and competition management purposes, there will be a number of control gates.
If a runner fails to pass through any of the following checkpoints by the gate closing time, the runner must withdraw from the race and board the pick-up bus. Please note that even before the official checkpoint closing time, if race officials determine that a runner clearly cannot reach subsequent checkpoints by their respective times, they may instruct the runner to discontinue the race.

  • Even if a runner has passed the eighth gate, which is the final one, they must discontinue the race at that point if they cannot finish by the competition end time of 3:30 pm.
  • The checkpoint locations and times are current plans as of July 2025 and are subject to change.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS (as of the day of the event)

Participants must be 18 years of age or older.

(Precautionary Notes)

  • The runner must be able to complete the race by the end of the competition (7 hours).
  • Participation by wheelchair is not permitted.
  • Runners with disabilities who find it difficult to run alone must be accompanied by an escort runner (participation is free of charge). Up to two escort runners may accompany such runners. (Assistance dogs are not permitted to accompany runners.)

  • Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and will close when capacity is reached.

  1. Additional administrative fee will be charged when paying the entry fee:
    - For JTB AMARYS: 2,000 yen
    - For Run Japan: 14% of the entry fee (1,960 yen)
  2. Registration (free) with either AMARYS or Run Japan is required for entry.

Run Japan has reached its planned number of participants and is now closed. Please apply through JTB AMARYS.

TIME MEASUREMENT AND RECORDS

  1. The runners’ times will be tracked using a transponder chip.
  2. Records and overall standings shall be determined by the time (gross time) from the gun at the start of each marathon wave.
    • For reference records and age group rankings, times after crossing the start line (net times) shall also be tracked.
    • Runners who do not start in the designated wave may be disqualified.
  3. Rankings will be determined by the second. However, in the case of a tie, rankings will be determined by the nearest 1/100th of a second.

START LINE UP

To ensure a smooth and safe start, runners are asked to line up at the start block designated by the organiser. The start block will be decided by the organiser based on the target time provided at entry, regardless of whether the runner is registered with the Japan Association of Athletics Federations. If no target time is declared, the runner will start from the last block.

  • Blocks may differ even for those who have declared the same time.

AWARDS

  1. Overall awards Men and Women: Awards will be given to the 1st–8th place overall male and female finishers (by gross time)
    • On the day of the event, there will be an awards ceremony for the 1st–3rd overall male and female finishers, and certificates for the 4th placers and below will be sent out at a later date.
  2. Awards will be given to the 1st–8th place overall male and female finishers in each age group (by net time)
    • No awards ceremony will be held. Award certificates will be sent out at a later date. (Japan addresses only)
    • The age groups will be divided into six categories: 29 and under, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s and over.
      (Ages are as of the day of the event, and overall winners will be excluded from age group winners.)

NUMBER PICKUP

Runner registration will take place as follows. Details will be provided in the 'Participation Information' emailed to you in early March, so please make sure to check the details and register.

  • Passport identification will be required at the number pickup desk (pickup by proxy will not be accepted). Please also bring proof of foreign residency.

WEB RECORD CERTIFICATES

After the race, you can create and download a digital certificate of completion on the event website. Paper certificates will not be issued. Additionally, you can check your personal results (both preliminary and official) on the event website.

FINISHER’S PRIZES

Runners who complete the race within the time limit will receive a finisher’s medal and towel.

HANDLING OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

The organizer recognizes the importance of protecting personal information and will handle this in strict compliance with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information and its related laws and regulations, such as EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and in accordance with the event Privacy Policy. Personal information shall be used only for the purpose of improving the services provided to the participants of the event, such as participant information, notification of records and related information, provision of services by the event sponsors, collaborators, co-organizers, and related organizations, and notification of records.

  • Participants' personal information may be provided to companies involved in the management of the marathon, commissioned companies and other third parties (including those outside Japan). In the event that participants’ personal information is provided to third parties in countries outside the EEA (European Economic Area), it will be fully protected through the conclusion of a standard contract based on the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) or other measures.

  • The runner’s names and country of residence will be written on the athletes' bibs.
  • Personal information such as name, age group, and race results will be published on the internet.
    (Web result certificates, real-time result services like Runnet result and Cheering Navi, participant lists, etc.)
  • The runner's names, hometowns and records of all marathon finishers will be published in the Fukui Shimbun newspaper after the event.
  • Please note that the organizer may contact you to confirm your application details.

TERMS AND APPLICATION

All participants must accept the following terms and application before applying for the event:

  1. The organiser will only provide first aid in the event of illness or other accidents. Compensation for illness and other accidents will be covered by the organiser's insurance, except in the case of willful misconduct or gross negligence on the part of the organiser. Furthermore, allergen information for food and beverages provided at this event is published on the official event website. The organizers are not responsible for any allergic reactions that may occur due to food consumption.
  2. No cancellations, refunds, or changes of registration details (event types, etc.) due to personal reasons shall be accepted once the application has been submitted. No refunds will be made for duplicate entries made in error. Please note that in case of accidental duplicate entries, the first entry will be considered invalid, and no refund will be provided. Please be careful to avoid such situations.
  3. In the event of cancellation due to an earthquake, windstorm, flood, snowfall, incident, accident, disease, or other circumstances beyond the organizer’s control, the organizer shall decide whether to refund the entry fee after taking into consideration the expenses incurred up to the time the decision to cancel is made.
  4. No parking areas shall be provided by the organizer around Fukui Station, which is the start and finish point of the race. Please arrive by public transportation. The organizer shall not be held responsible for late arrivals due to public transportation disruptions, road conditions, etc.
  5. Minors must obtain the consent of a parent or guardian before applying.
  6. The organizer shall not be held responsible for any failure to receive communication by the deadline due to malfunction of Internet equipment, non-delivery or delay of shipments, or malfunction in the communication environment due to causes not attributable to the organizer, or if the necessary procedures could not be completed.
  7. In the event that a false declaration of age, gender, record, etc., or any other fraudulent act such as entry by a person other than the applicant himself or herself is discovered, the entry and record (awards) shall be cancelled. No refunds shall be made in such cases.
  8. Participants are responsible for managing their personal belongings and competition equipment. The organizers will not be held liable for any loss, damage, or other issues related to these items.
  9. The following acts or costumes are not permitted at the competition venue (including the course). The competition may be stopped in the event of any of the following acts or disguises.
    • Any activity that is intended to advertise or promote a company's products or business, or a design that represents such products or business (the use of a company's name on T-shirts or other clothing as a team name is permitted).
    • Any items that are connected with political or religious activities.
    • Disguises of occupations with special legal responsibilities, such as police officers, self-defence personnel, doctors, security guards, etc.
    • Any item that may cause injury or discomfort to others.
    • Any item that interferes with the smooth operation of the event.
    • Any other items that offend public order and morals and are deemed inappropriate by the organisers.
  10. The organizer reserves the right to publish images, photographs, articles, the names, ages, and addresses (country, prefecture, or city) of participants, etc., in newspapers, television, magazines, the Internet, pamphlets, etc., as well as portrait rights of participants. The rankings, names, hometowns, and records of all marathon finishers will be published in the Fukui Shimbun newspaper after the event. Photographs and other materials may also be sold on consignment, subject to the organiser's approval. Please also refer to the “HANDLING OF PERSONAL INFORMATION” section.
  11. The event will comply with all relevant domestic laws.
  12. No receipts will be issued. Please check your credit card statement or invoice.
  13. A “Participation Guide” will be sent to your registered email address in early March, outlining all the necessary information. Please make sure you have read the content and participate.
  14. In addition to the rules and regulations stipulated above, please follow the instructions of the organizer with regard to the competition.

PRECAUTIONS

  1. All participants are encouraged to take good care of their health and train sufficiently for the race. In addition, please make sure that you have undergone a medical check-up before the day of the race to ensure that there are no abnormalities. If you feel unwell on the day of the event, please do not hesitate to withdraw from participation.
  2. In the event of an emergency during the race or for the purpose of moving local residents, emergency vehicles may be given priority on the course. In such instances, the organizer will impose a runner’s stop, in which case please follow the instructions of the officials on site.
  3. A baggage storage station will be set up near the start and finish areas. (only items that fit in the provided bags will be accepted) Valuables may not be stored, so please manage any valuables at your own risk.
  4. At the time of application, please ensure that you register your telephone number and e-mail address correctly.
  5. When participating, please follow the "Participant Guide" and "Event Rules (Competition Guidelines)" that will be provided in advance.
